"Marley & Me"

Did you read it?

"Marley & Me" *life and love with the worlds worst dog
By John Grogan

I enjoyed it.
This is my dogs. Spark resembles Marley somewhat but he's really mellow. He was ten when we adopted him. He isn't really smart though.
We had a black lab who was really smart when our kids were growing up. He understood so many words.
Once my Dad was telling us about a good time. He said, "I had a ball." Midnight happily brought my kids grandpa his tennis ball!

My DH & I both thoroughly enjoyed the book. We have a 4-year old black Lab, and much of the description of Marley's puppyhood rang true!

I did read it. Reminds me of our real-old dog. She wants to be alpha. She's extremely energetic. She's dug up or kitchen floor and the family room carpet, chewed holes in walls, chewed every kitchen chair and bar stool we have, been kicked out of 3 obedience classes...but she's still loyal and loving and sweet.

I do understand how the Grogans, even though Marley frustrated them, could not give up on Marley.

I heard him on the radio being interviewed about the book.

Sound like a good story, but not really my cup of tea.

I loved it. Thank goodness my yellow lab is not as nervously destructive as Marley. I identified completely with everything they said about Marley though. I have never had a dog that was so incredibly people oriented. He is such a lovable doofus. When I read the chapter about Marley's last days I could hardly see through the tears.

Read it & thought of our ex-dog Pansy and my mother's deceased dog, both black Labs. Loved it until it got to the part where he had to be put to sleep. Had to put it down for a while & even then had to read through the tears, as aimeee said.

For those who read the book, have you seen the movie? What did you think of the movie?

Of course, books are always better than the movies, I think. I saw the movie with my brother in a Tucson suburb where a lot of seniors who were obviously dog lovers attended. Wasn't a dry eye in the auditorium. It's too bad that they couldn't include a tribute to other "bad" dogs as they ran the end credits as John Grogan did in the last chapter of the book. As it was, they just replayed memorable moments of Marley which was OK, too. I was hoping they would have included some actual photos or videos of the real Marley, but that didn't happen. Even my copy of the book only has black and white photos on the inside covers.
