I've yet to read the second after liking The Kite Runner. Stevielynn recommended it a while back.

If you like historical novels you may like The Emancipator's Wife about Mary Todd Lincoln and Patriot Hearts: A Novel of the Founding Mothers )Martha Washington, Abigail Adams, Dolley Madison, and Sally Hemings.) by Barbara Hambly

Am reading The War currently. It is written based on the PBS documentary Ken Burns did for PBS about WW2. I can't put it down - well, except to post here on AN.

Also checked out from the library:
Dreams from My Father
Fiasco
The Chrysanthemum and the Sword

Just finished "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by the Kite Runner's author Khaled Hussein. Mah.....

NOT as good as KR. It took 75% of the book to describe what was going on, and 25% worth of action. Now don't misinterpret what I'm about to say. I definitely recognize the plight of oppressed women in the Middle east. I just got REALLY tired of the author beating the dead horse. Every chapter had some woman being oppressed and mistreated by some pig of a man. I know it happens. It just got old after reading 300pgs of the same thing.

Fiasco is excellent. I think I've read it three times now and it still makes me mad every time. Another good book along the same lines is Overthrow.

Still reading The Moral Animal. I hate (despise really) psychology but this book is very interesting. The author discusses how our unconscious shapes our choices and if monogamy is natural.

Just finished The Things They Carried. I read the short story in Lit last year and finally got around to the book.

I need to get away from books that make me think. I need a good romance novel with lots of sex!

What did you think of "The Things They Carried"? We read the short story last year in our English Comp class. I thought the work was excellently written and very visual. Hated the topic of the war, but I couldn't get the short story out of my mind for weeks. I read that the piece was a part of a larger work by the author.

I'm reading When Crickets Cry, by Charles Martin.

http://www.amazon.com/When-Crickets-...1148536&sr=8-1

For a light weight read, search "dixie cash" @ amazon. The 1st one to read is Since as you're leaving anyway, take out the trash or something like that. http://www.amazon.com/Since-Youre-Le...1148598&sr=8-2

The 1st part of this book is like one of those nightmares where you are trying to get someplace by a certain time, and unbelieveable things happen to prevent it. I laughed so hard I had to change my clothes. ETA: I forgot the link!! http://www.amazon.com/Lone-Star-Cafe...1212153&sr=8-5

I liked it. I didn't expect it to be so long after reading the short story.
