I just cussed out the world in emoticons!!!!!!! =)
Okay, the first few seasons really made nurses look like skanky morons, but they seemed to have laid off for a while, well last night's episode has really p*ssed me off! The whole "have fun playing nurse" comment is really making me angry!!!!!!
Seriously, why do the writers of this show think being a nurse is so horrific? It's bad enough they contribute to the ignorance of the public about the dynamics and inner-workings of hospitals: for instance, 95% of the work they write the "doctors" doing is actually nurse work? Don't get me wrong, I love the b*tchy, catty, incestuous, drama... it's the reason the show is usually so good! But come on, nurses have it bad enough on this show (and in real life) being practically invisible, is it necessary to blatantly degrade them as well???
I certainly hope none of the writers ever have to visit a hospital.... because trust me...they would be waiting a LONG time for a surgeon to answer their call bell, bring them food and drinks, help them to the bathroom, give them a bath, change their diapers, administer their pain medicine, assess them and report problems as needed, be a shoulder for them to cry on or complain to, provide support and education to them and their families, advocate for them when the doctors orders are incorrect, organize and coordinate all of their care, etc, etc!
I know, I know it's a TV show, not real life, but I firmly believe you can have all the fun, drama, sarcasm, laughs, and tears without being SO unrealistic!!!! UGHHHH!!!
Okay, I'm better now!
