THE mum of Big Brother contestant Karly Ashworth has hit out after TV bosses slapped subtitles on the screen when her daughter appeared.

Housewife Vivian Fairfull was shocked to learn the 21-year-old's Scots accent had been subtitled on Saturday's E4 Big Brother catch- up show.

But the mum-of-four, from Methilhill, Fife, yesterday described her daughter's broad accent as a "grower" and tipped her to hit the big time.

She said: "They shouldn't put subtitles on a Scots accent.

"There's nothing wrong with the way Karly speaks and the Fife accent's a grower.

"I admit it's a bit of a shock when you hear us speak and I've cringed seeing myself on Christmas videos and the like but it's no worse than other accents.

"I'm not worried about my daughter as I know she can handle herself. She wants to do well since appearing as one of FHM magazine's High Street Honeys and aims to make it big."

Karly was subtitled as she and Sophie discussed the type of men they go for and speculated on whether any of the male housemates might fit the bill.

She became the seventh BB hopeful to earn fully fledged housemate status after she completed a gruelling task.

She had a tyre run over her as she lay blindfolded while a motorbike was revved next to her to make her think she was about to be run over.

Vivian admitted she hadn't watched her daughter survive the ordeal to seal her place in the house.

She said: "I taped the show on Saturday night but my friend phoned me to tell me Karly had made it through as a housemate.

"She told me all about the motorbike and said my daughter had been really brave and deserved to go into the house.

"I'm waiting to get a bit of peace so I can watch the show as things are really hectic at the moment.

"But I'm really proud of what's she's achieved."

Karly is dating former Berwick, East Fife and Dunfermline midfielder Gary Greenhill, 23, who now plays for Perth Soccer Club in Australia.

A Big Brother spokeswoman said: "As is often the case with any housemates, subtitles can be added to clarify what any housemate is saying if they are whispering, covering their microphone or if other housemates are talking over them."
