Lost most of my channels!

by dianah Staff

In preparation for the new switchover to digital, I bought a new flat-screen TV (smaller, pretty inexpensive).

I've never had cable, have always gotten a few channels w/rabbit ears.

After Friday's official switchover, I now find I can get only a handful of the channels I used to get.
I have a whole lot of new foreign-language channels!

But, I'm missing 'my' channels on which I watched Dancing With the Stars and American Idol.
I don't watch much else, other than an occ. Seinfeld episode (that channel is gone too) and I'd just found some original Star Trek episodes on a local channel. That's gone too.

I have to decide whether I want to fork out the $$$ to get cable.
I don't want to.

Very disappointed here.

Did you buy a cable anternna, we find the over air channels come in clear better then cable. Do you have Fios where you live that is another option.

I may try getting a new antenna, thanks for the suggestion.

FIOS is unavailable here.

Thumbs down Re: Lost most of my channels!
Dianah,
I have the most basic cable service, and it only costs me less than 16 dollars a month. However, when the digital service began, my bedroom TV no longer works, with the exception of TV Guide.

I re-found the channel with Star Trek re-runs.

I like the all-weather channel and occ. tune in to the sports channel.
Wonder if the sports channel will show a lot of the Olympics??? Hope so!!!

I had a vERY old TV with a dial for channels, no remote.
It took a while to scan the converter box. Not i have remote to change channels with the conveter, just get up to turn it off.

DH can watch his cable news and I can enjoy music and such on PBS and the fantasy "who done it's" on CBS.

I called the cable service and learned my dvd player was on. DUH! At least I didn't have to pay extra for another installation.

I resisted cable and satellite for years ... I'm not chuffed at the idea of paying good money to be sold as an advertising statistic.

But I was so unimpressed with reception of digital broadcasts, even with a powered indoor antenna, that I broke down and got satellite. The next step would have been a rooftop antenna and I figured if I was going to lay out more money and get holes drilled in my house, I might as well get the SciFi channel for my trouble. Cable company here is notoriously bad for customer service and way expensive compared to satellite.

Personally, I think that law was intended to get everyone on a paid service and take out the competition from over-the-air broadcasters.
