I know this subject has been brought up before, but...
Every time I turn around there is another medical drama. For nurses (Mercy, HawethRNe, Nurse Jackie); Doctors (House, Grays, Private Practice); and Parametics and EMTs alike (Trama). Did I leave any out? I am a victim of a large portion of them (Mercy, HawethoRNe, House, Trama) and my DVR can prove it. I know they are not real, that they are just dramatic representations of the truth, be more far from it than close to it. I am sucked into the entertainment purpose of it. But I just caught myself; while watching Trama...I actually though to myself "Hey it looks pretty exciting to be a Parametric" (I am sure some of it is in part do to the fact that I totally have the hots for the character "Rabbit") then I stopped myself and laughed, "Silly Trix are for kids; this is not like the real deal!"
It got me thinking, should these show's have to have a warning before the opening credits? Warning that the show is for entertainment purposes only?" I mean "obviously its not real" the layman would say, but how many times have you heard a patient make a reference to "real life" that you could easily suspect the idea formulated from watching these shows? I am currently reading, "saving lives: why the media's portrayal of nurses puts us all at risk"...as if I need to read something to make me angry, but it has some really good points...
