Actually welfare does NOT look like that. MOST are drug abusing people.

I still do not see an evidence to back up this claim made by Castymiss.

I agree but I also do not see any evidence to disprove it.

And I appreciate that. As I said earlier, I support the soldiers, but not the war. I appreciate every single soldier that has given their time (and lives) for this nation, I just wish there was a way to avoid it. Do I have answers? No. But I hold out hope that someday, there will be a better solution.

I think the point LaneyB (and myself) was trying to make is that an opinion does not equal fact. Saying "most people on welfare are druggies BECAUSE I SAY SO" is really an invalid argument, if even an argument. I don't agree that any statement is fact simply because a person says so. Which is almost the same argument you're giving with any conflicting studies you provide. Yes, statistics can be inaccurate or outright lies. And for every castymiss who believes most people on welfare are druggies, there is a petunia2016 who believes that, while some people on welfare are substance abusers, most are honest people who just need a little help to survive. In the end, we just need to agree to disagree. But please, PLEASE, do not state opinion as fact.

I absolutely agree... but it goes both ways. It appears as though the prevalance of welfare recepients and drug use is quite prominent where Castymiss and I work (Los Angeles and NICU). It is quite apparent that geographical location and specialty have a huge effect on personal perception of the situation. I can't imagine that a nurse working in a Skilled Nursing Facility in Montana is going to have the same opinion on this matter as I am, working in a large NICU in Tampa, FL (or Houston, TX or San Diego, Ca... where I've worked). As you can see in the articles that I posted, there is strong evidence that drug abuse of welfare recipients in my realm of employment is probably the most significant.

I don't think anyone stated opinion as fact. I think everyone stated their opinion based on their personal experiences... that's all.

Actually, if you read back, I believe Castymiss did. I can certainly understand that certain people are a bit more... jaded because of their line of work. I try not to judge others and I try to give them a chance. Others may call me gullible and naive, and that may be true at times. I just don't like all the negativity, y'know? But as long as those who are so negative still provide the people they believe to be "druggies" (or know to be substance abusers) with excellent, unbiased care, then it really doesn't matter. Right?

Not all welfare recipients are unemployed, but I think random drug testing is good.
