I need to know where every penny the government is using to pay these benifits come from?...There is not special money mill....no computer print out place.... the govenment has no money...it only has our money to work with.
So....this is our money and so it is your money also. This is the money your mom and dad paid in.....that pays for the benifits everyone has now. So when you need benifets...that mother of 4 kids with no daddy to help.......is paying for your future benifits...............I know how much I have paid in..how much has she?

At the beginning of each month the psychiatric units are emtpy...during the 2nd week of the month we see the SAME people coming back...saying they are suicidal...WHY???? They have used up their entire SSI check on drugs and alcohol. Now they keep saying they are suicidal to get into the hospitals until their next check. They hospital hop all over the area. Stay 3 days in one, discharged and then go to another for 3 days...etc.....EVERY month the SAME people. So YES, they should be drug tested and if positive NO check. OR they MUST have a payee who oversees their funds to pay for food, rent,...etc...but most of these people would rather be homeless than not have their drugs. Go to skid row in downtown Los Angeles. There are numerous shelters for them. They do not want to go to the shelters, but rather be out on the streets in tents so they can continue to abuse the drugs and alcohol. The shelters do not allow drug abuse. So I pretty much stand by what I said. SSI IS a form of welfare....SDI is for the disabled. (just remember, most of the disabled would rather stay on SDI then return to work..NOT ALL...but most.
This is the cold, hard truth. Usually, all manner of support and social services, occupational training progs, etc etc, are given to no avail. Blaming the system, or worse, accusing the nurses of being heartless people who just don't get that these people are suffering from a "a disease". Yeah, kick' em again. It's hard enough to work with these populations day in and day out, sorry, but the holier-than-thou thing just adds insult to injury. To all those who continue to work in inner city ERs and social services, THANK YOU!!!!! End of rant. Over and out:wink2:

There is a fine line between those who need help and those who seek help for every little thing. Those of us who work as nurses and others who help often run into that fine line....so we help all and hope those who need it get help and those who don't.......will not pay any mind to us anyway LOL!

Yes, there is a reason. And never, ever overlook this: they vote Democrat.

I dont think the op was saying test SSI, test Welfare applicants and random test them as long as they are on welfare. It's one thing to be ill and need help but to just be lazy and want to sit on your a** while my tax system supports you is crazy!!

I'm surprised at the assumptions being made here about welfare recipients. Do you all really believe welfare is a hiding place for lazy people and druggies? Most people recieving benefits work and have children, they just don't make enough to support their families.

I first recieved benefits when I left my abusive husband and moved into a homeless shelter. I rode the bus everywhere and lived off of food stamps and cash assistance. I remember once standing at a bus stop outside the DES office with my baby and toddler and someone driving by in a car slowed down to shout, "So you're one of these people who takes all our tax dollars to just pop out babies!".

I went to a vocational school for medical assisting because it was a fast, easy way to get into the work force. I continued on state benefits for 4 years because I still didn't make enough to support our family.

Most people on welfare have children. Most people on welfare have jobs. Most people are on welfare for less than 5 years of entire lives. I know I will hear responses like, "Well, we weren't talking about people like you, we were talking about those who abuse the system". But I'm not an exception to the rule. This is what welfare looks like.

I might go for it if we also required drug and alcohol testing to renew your driver's license.

Same reasoning ... my taxes and insurance premiums pay for the damage done by intoxicated drivers.
