Hey, Herring and everyone else. Hi Grace hi Jnette and all. My work here is mostly all priority 1 given the tyranny of distance. Luckily sometimes I can downgrade the priority a bit.
My work is mainly car rollovers [major trauma] cardiac, respiritory, [?] intestinal, snakebite and whatever a hospital emergency dept would encounter. Only thing here is on a good day I do about 400 kilometres if the Hedland ambulance is available to come meet me otherwise my trip stretches out to 600 k's. You do what you can and you always do your best. With multiple critical patients triage in reverse is not easy, but save one-don't lose two. It's a decision you make and stand by.
I may go two weeks with nothing major except the usual clinic patchup jobs and then 2 or 3 majors one after the other. I would not be doing it if I didn't love helping people.
I rely on bystanders to help--there is always someone there. In any case, one fossli is better than none.
Enjoy your lives~~~~I really love talking to you all.
My horizon has been very much expanded with All Nurses. Thank you all.

No, never been an ambo.
Started nursing from the cradle!
And ... i just realised the double connotation of that statement! lol
I was typical of most hospital trained nurses, started around the late teen years.
I'm retired now.

Sorry, Grace. That question was actually addressed to Medic2RN.

Please tell us what happened the next time you use the ambulance.

And of course protect your patients identity.

Most of my life I've lived in the same house with as many or more people than in your community.

Bushie ... I Google Earth'ed your location and OMG mate! Talk about being out in the sticks! LOL You'll definitely have to take some pics and share with the mob here, they'd love to see the real Aussie bush.
Closest we ever came to where you are is Exmouth when DH was still serving in the RAN.
Do you get to Broome or Hedland often?
The MIL was born in Marble Bar.

I'll post a link for the Flying Doctor for folks to read about if they're interested. Have done so before on other threads and people found it amazing and interesting.............. http://www.flyingdoctor.net/

Who funds the new ambulance, the state government or St John?
It's great that you have a modern new set of wheels to do the job.

Herring .... in many many places across the outback here in Oz, there are small communities like this which Bushie lives and works in. These folks are the salt of the earth and sometimes are the difference between someone surviving a trek into the outback or not.

Too many folks from overseas come here with no real idea of just what a HUGE and in some areas, totally UNlivable for humans, country Australia is, and they take off for the "outback" experience, with NO experience, and often, sadly, it costs them their lives.

It's the hardy souls who live in the outback and do the job Bushie is doing, that the rest of us owe a lot to.

Only those of us who grew up in the bush (outback) really understand just what life there is like.

It's not for wusses!

If you Google earth: Sandfire, Western Australia, you'll get a birdseye view of where Bushie is.

I'm sure he'll post pics once he's taken some and figured out how to post them, he said he would.
