Military Family Members Support Thread !

by jnette Staff

Thought I'd dedicate a thread to those nurses who currently have sons, daughters, brothers, sisters or other close family members serving our country in these troublesome times.

This thread is for all of you to be able to come to one place to share your thoughts, fears, joys.. innermost emotions..to ask questions others may be able to answer, or guide you to a place you might find the answers you need.

Or simply a safe place to come to support, encourage, and lift one another up.

May each of your loved ones be safe... and Godspeed to each one.

Great idea, Jnette! :flowersfo
I can see this thread getting used A LOT in the next few weeks/months.

I talked with my dad yesterday....military being what it is, they are saying he might go to boot camp as early as next week or as late as March 10. He finished the second part of the physical yesterday. The "bend over" part he wasn't too thrilled about but I guess that's probably not the worst thing that he'll experience before boot camp is over!

I'm really proud of him, even if I'm scared for him and don't agree with the war we're in. He's a fairly good shooter (having been shooting guns since he was about oh, 9). I hope they don't train him to be a sniper. He tested really well as a diesel mechanic, so I'm praying that's what they stick to.

I don't currently have any immediate family members in the military.

My bf oldest son will be leaving for boot camp soon with a new baby due in April/May.

Jnette THANK YOU for starting this thread. I will be glad to support the members and their family.

I also don't believe in the war we are in. I don't think we should be there now BUT I totally support all of TROOPS & their FAMILIES.

Angie

You're right, Arwen... the "bend over" is nothing compared to what is still to come! :stone

Don''t know what the discrepancy is in the wait time to BC.. 10 days to MArch 10th???

He's not on delayed entry or anything, is he? Then again, BC slots may be filled up and they are waiting for slots for new classes/instructors.

Where will he be going to BC? Camp LeJeune? Are you planning on going to his graduation? I'm so glad I went to Adam's.. his was up in Chicago. We spent a day at the Navy Pier, and another day just hanging out, shopping at the mall, etc. It was wonderful. I attended his "swearing in" ceremony just before he left out for BC, too. That was a real tear jerker. He was so young and "innocent" still. So unaware of all the changes which were about to take place. It was a long and tearful drive home without him. Even though he hadn't lived at home for several years already, but was out traveling the world on his own... this, however, was different.

Still seems like just yesterday.

While he was out to sea on this last and lengthy 7 mo. deployment, they pulled him from "postal" and put him in "security". He had to certify in ammo and weapons. He is so NOT a gun-toter... he was glad when his stint with that was over. He is NOT into "cammies"... LOL !

He went to his postal schooling somewhere near Camp LeJeune and would tell me how he'd stand on his room balcony and watch all the "grunts" parading by and doing their PT routine. He would chuckle to himself, thanking God he did NOT join the Marines ! :chuckle

Do keep us posted on your brother's comings and goings..and make full use of this thread. I think it will be a nice "kitchen table" for us to gather around to share our hopes and fears for our loved ones in the service.

And to be there for one another, :icon_hug:

Thanks Jnette!
Excellent idea!
I know this is primarily for US families, but can our mob join in too?
Since Australia is in this together with the US and our other allies, we have much in common. Perhaps also, much to share.

It's errie you've posted this now.
We have just heard news of confirmation of DS being re-deployed.
He leaves beginning of April.
It was on the cards, so it's no surprise.
While he's not going to the Gulf, (for which we're greatly relieved), the danger is still ever present and unpredictable.
Most other military mother's will understand the anxiety and concern I feel.
He returned safely last year, we pray the same again this time.

My thoughts and prayers for all who serve and their loved ones.

Wishing your brother every success as he embarks on this challenge. You have every right to be proud of him! Being scared is totally understandable. All of us with a loved one serving and in harm's way, feel scared for them. Having others to share with, who understand, is enormously helpful. ((((Arwen))))

Thank you, Don. Bless you for your kind words.

Sometimes, it feels as though only we, the family, really care about our loved one who is serving.
It sometimes feels as if the genreal population is apathetic and indifferent.
