I was on another board where a member claimed to be pregnant, then said she was carrying twins, then said she delivered them at 25 weeks, but *gasp* the twins were healthy enough to go home two whole weeks later!!! She got lots of sympathy until that last bit, even the least medically knowledgable knew that.

Not too bright, was she?

I think life is tough enough (sometimes) without having to make stuff up!!! And it's also not fair to those who really DO need the support

The problem with making stuff up is that you never remember what you said!

I had to stop talking to one friend, too. She simply couldn't live without a major crisis in her life at all times. The worst part was, they were all true and did happen. She fell through a floor. Lawsuit. She had a hernia operation and nearly died. Lawsuit. Her husband abused her so badly she wound up in a wheelchair. Can't recall if that was before or after she hurt her back in a car accident. She had fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and a host of other ills. She was abused by her family, youngest of 8 children, Mom was a schizophrenic. Kids were ADD, etc.

Yeah, they were all real, but as my life improved and hers did not, I couldn't bear to be her sole emotional support any more.

I guess what finally got to me was her defeatist attitude. Like she deserved all that hell. Like she really didn't know how to cope without it.

Truly, I don't even know if she's alive at this point.

It's just a very sad life she chose to live.

And that, IMO, is exactly the point.

Your suffering in this life is a choice. We all suffer in life. But we really do choose whether we're going to beat it or whether it beats us.
