When I was about 8 or 9 I truly thought I was a Martian who had been sent to earth to live inside the body I had assumed. Since I was adopted at birth, it all made sense to me. My real name was Jupiter and I was actually a boy Martian cleverly disguised as me. My mission on Earth was to report back when Earthlings would be ready to join the intergalactice association of planets.

I carried on this self delusion for about a year. Yes, I did have some pretty dysfunctional familial problems and I was a fish out of water with my adoptive family. My parents had divorced and I definately had withdrawn into my own world.:smiletea2:

(The planet Earth is definately not ready to join the intergalactic league of planets, btw...)

In case there's any question:I am NOT a nurse. I'm an MA dreaming of nursing school someday (dreaming now cause I know once I actually get there I certainly won't be doin a whole lotta dreamin there!) One of my roommates is the "that woman" (there's a thread about "her" started not too long ago on the general disc board) I think a lot of everthing-has-happened-to-her-or-her-family is about attitude and boundaries (or lack there-of) - I think about my life and there are SOOO many things I could start dramatizing and get sympathy for and yet they're a part of everyday life for the vast majority of people. I think most of us, if we did like a one-up thread, there wouldn't be an end to the real life drama that really has happened to people. I am NOT trying IN ANY WAY to minimize what anyone is going through. I understand that people truly do experience devastating things and I currently have my own "venting" thread goin on and it was great to come and be able to get it off my chest. I'm talking about the ones like...the 24 wkrs who came home, what, like 2 wks later? C'mon! Thanks for listenin!:smilecoffeeIlovecof

They're also called "Board Bleeders"-- meaning that they'll bleed everyone on the Board for as much emotion and drama as they can elicit.

Sounds like the healthiest place you could be (your own world) at the time!

I liked your post. And I don't mind you being on here and not being a nurse -- I just mind those who come on and want people to THINK that they are.

And you mentioned the drama - real or made up, there has to be some room for empathy for other people besides yourself! So thanks

And vent away - lol

I was once in a chat room and one of the posters actually faked her suicide during a "live" chat session. :stone

Yes, you reminded me of an actual suicide threat on a general discussion board. Someone knew the woman's location tho (general location) and sent police. Come to find out it was just that; for attention.

I remember too around the same time that a man pretended he was dying from AIDS. He was well loved and supported. At the end, only his gay lover (who happened to be a dr.) wrote to us, as "Donald" was too ill. Once Donald had passed away and the funeral had happened (you can imagine how devastated some people were) - the "players" revealed the game - and that it was just "research" for a book.

This took place over the course of at least a YEAR!
