It sounds like something more cultural than anything.

i can tell you from personal experience, that getting along w/your mil makes for a much smoother marriage.
no man ever wants to have to choose betw his mom or his wife.
IF he chose you, he'd end up resenting you.

just grin and bear it, will you please?

Jo and Leslie are both right. You're not going to change her so ask yourself how you can grin and bare it. Good luck!

Ambulance Re: My partners mother is a Dentist and I'm just a nurse
Just a nurse???? You have to be kidding. I would suggest you are more trained in frontline care than she will ever be. I am a lowly rural nurse and Ambulance Officer but I repeatedly have to correct Paramedics and Doctors when working with patients way out in the bush. Experience counts for a lot. It is probably harder given she is kinda part of your family
Sometimes, unfortunately we have to be polite and "bite the bullet" That I hate.
Remember it is about self esteem-----you know you are good at your job so don't let an opinion slow you down.

YOU ARE NEVER JUST A NURSE.

Nurses are contagious~~~~~~~~they give you SMILES

Thanks you guys...I'm practicing my smile. I hate being talked down to...especially by someone who make uneducated swipes at me. Regardless if she realizes it or not. She has her pride..and I have mine. Lord forbid she is EVER wrong. Again, good woman, but I hate that side of her.

Just tell her it is great that we can all have our own opinions, share them and move along.
We do not have to agree with everything and that is what life is all about.
Do you see her often?
I agree with the others smile and move on.
Mind you it is ok to disagree with your MIL, just choose your words carefully.
