Speaking of "chew", I can't believe my younger brother. He used chew for quite a few years but he finally broke the habit. He had his 10 year old boy with him the other day and I saw his boy open a round chew shaped can and reach into it. I looked at my brother and he said, "it's just jerky".

Is it just me or is this not the brightest thing to give your boy?

My two older boys put mud under their lips when they were little - to be like Daddy (I have photos). My youngest gets the jerky chew too.

I've given up trying to change behavior - and nagging does not work.

Angel, there are two main things in any relationship---LOVE and then there is respect. Love is loving---respect is about caring. Doesn't seem like there is mch respect coming your way.
I was a heavy smoker for some 40 years and it cost me two good women [[[not at the same time!!!]]]. They hated tobacco but I just kept puffing away and they went away. MY FAULT.
When I stopped smoking I realised how disrespectful I had been to other people.
I think that if your other half wont respect you, you should open the door and point to the street even if just to keep your health. Damned hard if you are still in love.
So sorry this has happened to you.

I didn't post that to say you were wrong . ... you are right . . . .

Kids look up to their Daddy . . . my #2 son smokes cigs . . . #1 smokes cigars. So far, Danny just uses the jerky. My daughter smokes cigs.

And all my life I've preached against the evils of smoking.

Would he consider nicotine gum or the patch?

I'm a never smoker from a smoking family and I give my patients the "its a good idea" talk ever chance I can. But I am also realistic that people will only change when ready to make the switch.....

And my understanding is that nicotine is very difficult to quit. Very difficult.

angel, would you consider 'letting' him smoke outside, and brushing his teeth prn?
this way, you're not forcing him to do something he's not ready to commit to, and minimizes the likelihood of him lying.

just thinking aloud, here...

oh...and for the tobacco chewers...is that addictive as well?

Yeah - however nicotine gets into your blood system . . . .via lungs or mucosa . . . it ends up in the same place and does the same thing.

In fact, for those who use oral tobacco and don't spit . . . I think more might get into your system.

Isn't there a saying "Nicotine is harder to quit than heroin"?
