Thanks for your nice note. I'm glad it was helpful! Best of luck in your nursing career. I've found comfort, help here at allnurses.com over the years. The job is tough, but try to remember all of the good things. Nothing is more exciting when a patient on death's door comes back walking and talking to thank you. Gives me chills just writing it. What a great feeling it is! How many jobs can you say that about?
I live in southwest Virginia-redneck hillbilly country, which is probably why there is so much demand for nurses. I'm working at Select Specialty Hospital as an LPN and will be hired as soon as I graduate. Most of my classmates are already doing internships with hospitals in the area and have jobs lined up. The two major corporations that own the hospitals are Wellmont and Mountain States Health Association-if you Google them you'll see what I mean.
The good news is, a nurse can definetly work here. A lot of my coworkers have a second job! The bad news is, it is a rural area and takes some getting used to. Its definetly not California! Bristol is the Birthplace of Country Music and home of the NASCAR Bristol Motor Speedway-that will give you an idea of the local culture. People here are warm and friendly, though.
Good luck with your job search.
