A deaf man is under your care in a med/surge unit.. He is bed ridden and he is showing obvious signs of communication difficulty. How do you properly handle this situation?

    Hi Leslie,
Havn't been in contact with you for some time, but would like to congratulate you on your promotion as an All Nurses guide. You definitely are one of the very best IMHO as far as hospice goes. I shall always remember what you did for me.

I am wondering if you can give me some advise. Monday, I start a new career path as a hospice case manager. Many of your posts along the way have given me the courage to do what I originally intended to get into nursing for. Although I am glad I quit my job where patients were hearded like cattle, I find myself anxious and doubting I have what it takes to do the hardest job in nursing (but, also the most rewarding).

Any words of wisdom you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I do....... when I have my "blue collar" hat on. I wear dockers, a belt, and an aloha shirt when I have my white collar hat on.

Yup, it's a beer. Ever hear of Samuel Adams? I think he lived just down the street from you over 200 years ago. Some entrepreneur started a brewing company and "borrowed" his name.

Oh.... right. I'll keep that on the Q-T. Just don't tell anyone it goes both ways.

I suppose you have something against suspenders too...

Good morning, Leslie. Have a great day! Of course it goes without saying that any morning that starts with a good morning from me is already a great day. Remember how I always give you that "warm fuzzy feeling".....

I'm not sure what I want to do. I Just feel pretty useless in my current job. Not sure I could handle a 90k annual patient census in a 40 bed ED anymore. I am looking into hospice, but they just aren't hiring, especially since I've been out of a medical facility for so long.

And yep, we do need to have a chat.

Hi Leslie. I'm late for work, but what the heck. I've got an 8 hour shift job in an office. I just wanted to say hello. It's been a while. I need to get back to bedside.
