100K for the privilege to hear "you betcha" and "Joe Six-Pack".

by GCTMT

Sarah Palin's $100K speaking fee has Iowa Republicans wincing

A conservative Iowa group’s effort to lure Sarah Palin to its banquet next month has had an unintended effect: Rather than exciting conservatives about the prospect of a visit from the former Alaska governor, the group’s plan to raise a six-figure sum to bring her to the state has GOP activists recoiling at the thought of paying to land a politician's speaking appearance.

The Iowa Family Policy Center’s effort to cobble together $100,000 for Palin would represent a striking departure from customary practice in the first-in-the-nation state, these Republicans say, noting that a generation of White House hopefuls has paid their own way to boost their party and presidential ambitions.
Were Palin to appear in Iowa on November 21st, it would mark her first trip back to the state since she spoke to a handful of rallies there last fall as the GOP’s vice-presidential nominee. She would offer powerful counter-programming to another major political event that night: The Iowa Democratic Party’s Jefferson-Jackson Dinner with Vice-President Joe Biden as the headliner.

But representatives from other Iowa-based political advocacy groups said they would never consider shelling out money for what many politicians see as a privilege: the opportunity to speak to a room full of sure-fire caucus-goers who often serve as precinct captains and can be instrumental to a presidential candidate’s success.

“If somebody tells me they want me to pay an appearance fee, it tells me they’re not very serious about running for president,” said Ed Failor, Jr., president of Iowans for Tax Relief and an influential GOP insider.

So much for 'shoring up spending.....' Just sayin'. I know, it happens on both sides....but not exactly apropos for a fiscal conservative.

100K to hear Palin speak? Is it just me, or was she not what most people finger as the number one reason the Dems. won the election?

What is the draw?

It wasn't her . . .it was McCain.

The Republicans need to choose a true conservative.

McCain is not conservative. About the only thing I admire him for is his support of our troops and his constant haranguing of Obama to DO SOMETHING!

Thats an interesting theory. I'd have to say Palin had more to do with the loss than McCain did though. You could just........feel the weight shift towards the Dems when she was announced. lol. I NEVER met one single person who liked her.

This past election was the first one I paid any attention to......ever. I was apolitical for the majority of my voting life. I still am on a lot of levels, just not as militantly.

I swear it though, it seemed all of America's Republicans gasped and then sighed when she was announced. If you listened closely enough, you could hear people thinking............"We just lost the election." And, they were right.

I think it depends on where you were sitting.

McCain got an uptick in approval when she came on the ticket.

her initial reception was positive.
and then it/she went downhill from there.
everyone i've spoken with, believes that she was the downfall of the election.
i don't recall anyone being the brunt of so many jokes.

we will never, ever know wth mccain was thinking.

Yeah, I remember word of mouth reports (Republican supporters) being very negative, but the polls showing an increase for McCain. Supposedly, they thought it was an increase in female support. Then, slowly but surely, what everyone really thought about Palin overcame the intitial increase by ten fold.
