She's very poised isn't she? She won first place in the competition, although they initially disqualified her because they didn't like the topic. Her mother said that she tried to encourage her daughter to speak about something else, but the girl felt very strongly about the subject. If she were younger I would think it an inappropriate topic.
But at 12 I am glad she was able to give her excellent speech.
Thinking is good. Probably school, church, and other supervised systems are best for kids to discuss controversial topics.

Wow, I wish I could speak that well. And I did take speech.

I love Horton's quote: A person's a person, no matter how small.

Regardless of your thoughts on this, she gave a well-thought out speech. And she is right - she does represent women who have had abortions and who regret it. There are some. Not all. But some.

Instead of bashing each other - as they were doing on youtube about this video (so much that they closed the comments section and removed nasty comments) . ... we could just respect the message and the messenger.

Thanks for posting that - refreshing to see kids who use their brains and do research.

I have a huge question for you, Steph. I have immense respect for pro-lifer's, but why the abandonment after the child is born with opposition to social programs?

The Repub's just quit after first breath, why? It contradicts the argument. I'm not trying to be a wiseguy, I just need an answer.

Well spoken but clearly sourced from some discredited research. Before this starts a flame war I just want to point out that nobody is really proabortion. t really comes down to the matter of self autonomy and conscience.

Abs, I have always wondered this as well. The only response I have gotten is that these kids are supposed to pull themselves up by the straps of their booties and make it !!! I don't get it and it really points to the absurdity of the pro-life argument if in fact all girls no matter the circumstance are supposed to go through with unwanted pregnancy.

While everyone is applauding this little girl, I think it more than obvious that her passion is definitely born from parental influence. And although I strongly disagree with her premise, I would like to say that she has done a far better job articulating her position than most people who push this cause. I really hope that my six year old daughter will not be focused on these things at such a young age....

She is very articulate and did some thinking.

I wrote a very anti-abortion paper in highschool.

I believe the abortion-breast CA link has been discredited. And Dr. Seuss once threatened to sue an anti-abortion group for using that Horton line on their letterhead.

I'm not pro-abortion. Some women do have horrible complications post-AB. I have taken care of some at work whose stories would make your skin crawl. Some women do have emotional issues afterward. No doubt there.

Most excellent speech. I appreciate that she didn't make it religious. I too think abortion is wrong, but not because the Bible or some preacher tells me it's wrong.
