I kid you not, it didn't make a lick of sense.
I've just gone cross-eyed.

Dang! I didn't get the memo either! You people need to keep us informed!

As to the OP's subject . . . . there have been many articles about the mess the H1N1 flu shot has been in.

Locally - our hospital just now got our shots and we can only give them to the high risk groups . . but they sent more than enough to give all employees a shot. However, we can't.

And I mentioned my ALS patient - who cannot have the shot even though she is high risk for respiratory illness.

It is a mess folks.

The reality is that we are about 20 years overdue for pandemic flu....Add in chronic underfunding of public health and members of both parties are accountable for problems...

Just heard on the 11 p.m. news that my State of California declared a state of emergency due to lack of vaccine.

1. health care workers are one of the high-risk groups so why can't you get the shot?
2. what happened with your ALS patient?

.. "pregnant women, people who live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age, healthcare and emergency medical services personnel, persons between the ages of 6 months and 24 years old, and people ages of 25 through 64 years of age who are at higher risk for 2009 H1N1 because of chronic health disorders or compromised immune systems."

Well, here are the risk groups . . . however because of the lack of enough vaccine the definitions are being pretty tightly defined and the ER and L&D can get them but not regular staff . . yet.

And our ALS Hospice patient can't get the regular flu shot because there is no more available due to the focus on H1N1. Our hospital can't give it - I've asked the docs locally - nope. The health dept - nope.

She seems pretty darn high risk to me.

Priorities are derived from populations...Occasionally individuals are on the wrong side of the priority definitions...
