An Amazing South Carolina Law

by CrufflerJJ Premium Member

I heard about it & didn't believe it. In reviewing the South Carolina state website, however, it's (unfortunately) true.

If you are a member of a subversive organization, advocating the overthrow of the US or South Carolina by force or violence, you are required to ....REGISTER... with the state of SC. Merely submit the proper form to the SC Secretary of State.

Every member of a subversive organization, or an organization subject to foreign control, every foreign agent and every person who advocates, teaches, advises or practices the duty, necessity or propriety of controlling, conducting, seizing or overthrowing the government of the United States, of this State or of any political subdivision thereof by force or violence or other unlawful means, who resides, transacts any business or attempts to influence political action in this State, shall register with the Secretary of State on the forms and at the times prescribed by him.

Amazingly enough, this is NOT a joke.

See Title 23, Chapter 29:

http://www.scstatehouse.gov/code/t23c029.htm

Hurry now and avoid the rush - if you fail to register, you're subject to a fine of $25,000. Or 10 years on prison. Or both......

It makes a slimy sort of sense ... the more charges you can throw at someone you don't like, the more likely something is to stick.

Now ... who gets to decide which organizations are "subversive"?

There ya go!

Remember me talking about my speech teacher asking us to line up - pro or con - about mandating parenting classes? She had given us examples - terrible examples - of bad parenting.

Well, the ones on the "con" side were concerned . . . . .whose ideas about parenting would they be teaching? Then we got into it about that.

Interesting class.

Mandating stuff . . . . gets tricky.

steph (shocking I know - I was on the "con" side)

The Good Guys..you know, the folks interested in keeping us "safer" in an ever-nastier world.

Can you say Patriot Act? There! I knew you could.

No need for those silly freedoms, liberties, or rights.

Now y'all go easy on our beloved state.

The gov. only disappeared to ARGENTINA 5 times and wrote love notes on his state computer to his Argentine mistress. Now the wife has divorced him and has written a book all about it while the topic is still hot.

We got children out on the street cause mama didn't pay the rent in 18 degree weather. Our roads sux, weather is nice 5" snow right now. We have Myrtle Beach that is slowly eroding into the Atlantic, my person town water is contaminated with Radon so we get a note every year, I guess that satisfies the law.
It's the only place I know to live so I guess I gotta register cause I am getting close to subversive-mini style. No I'm never going to be Klan, or a Communist, but I do write a letter to the editor monthly and they usually get printed. Y'all pick on another state we KNOW what we got . I'd like the skinny on someplace else for a change.

How about that state to the north of you? I know of at least one "malcontent" there. (And she's a staff member as well!)
