2012 is three years away. Obama was an unknown three years before he started campaigning. At the time, big names in the Dem party didn't think he was electable.
This last election was there for the Dems to lose; not so much because they brought a better product, but because the Repubs were so unpopular. The reality is that the Dem win should've been much larger...and in 2012, he won't be able to blame the 'last four years' on President Bush...especially if he continues to do it for the next four years like he seems as though he wants to do. People will get tired of it.
There are many electable candidates other than Obama. In fact, the only way I see him winning a second term is if another Ross Perot comes along.
And the presence of "more democrats" doesn't matter if democrats are going to push the voters down and crap on their heads while stealing their wallets. BTW, I am not a republican.
The reality is that Palin as the 'self-destructing mess' as you improperly labeled her is the only reason I think that McCain was able to make the race competitive.
