Blame Game

by Tweety Platinum Member

I never really blamed one party or the other, both parties in Congress are crappy and out of touch with how to manage things. I am quick to remind people that the downturn and deficit spending occurred during a republican presidency, because some people seem to forget that little tid bit. But that's yesterday's news and the blame game doesn't get us anywhere.

Number of Americans who hold the GOP exclusively responsible for the recession is steadily falling.

The memory of the American public is amazingly short and their vision quite myopic. This sour economy is fast becoming a "Democratic" problem and it will show in the midterm elections with major losses to the Democrats in both houses.

The tide is turning. I sense a sea change. Just look at the incredible numbers of people who now watch Fox almost exclusively (who didn't before, myself included). Look at the growing popularity of Sarah Palin. Her near martyrdom at the hands of the liberal media have only helped her cause, it seems.

But you're right. Both parties caused this mess. I am thankful to Obama for the stimulus, because it saved many a state budget last year. It was a very precarious time for state employees across the nation. We all were wondering if we would lose our jobs. We still have a long way to go and what will happen this year and the next with no stimulus money to fall back on for the states?

Very true. It is now a Democratic problem, which is why the blame game doesn't get us anywhere.

Certainly if things don't improve, the Democrats will suffer mid-term. This happened to Mr. Clinton when he lost control mid-term his first term.

I'm a bit frustrated that so many republicans are looking towards mid-term which is NEXT YEAR and are so busy trying to get re-elected and get republicans elected, and are so busy condeming the current plan, that they aren't really doing anything to help.....because of course a good economy a year from now wouldn't be a good thing for their party.

I've always had a beef with both parties on that issue, that because we elect every two years people are trying to get elected rather than do any work. Our current Florida Govenor is doing the same thing. He took the stimulus money and spent it, and now is distancing himself saying "gee the deficit is horrible, when I run for republican Senator in 2010............"

I had a history professor that once told me that in bad times, the government will get too much blame, and in good times they will get too much credit. That seems to be the case here.
