Heard this on the radio a few days ago and had a few tears in my eyes by the time the reader finished. Thought it was worth posting here.
Excerpts: Thank you former President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush If you have been reading us for any length of time, you know that we used to make fun of “Dubya” nearly every day…parroting the same comedic bits we heard in our Democrat circles, where Bush is still, to this day, lampooned as a chimp, a bumbling idiot, and a poor, clumsy public speaker. You may be as surprised by this as we are ourselves, but from this day forward George W. and Laura Bush are now on the same list for us as the Clintons, Geraldine Ferraro, Stephanie Tubbs Jones, and the other political figures we keep in our hearts and never allow anyone to badmouth.
Criticize their policies academically and intelligently and discuss the Bush presidency in historical and political terms…but you mess with the Bushes personally and, from this day forward, you’ll answer to us.
We hope someday to be able to thank George W. and Laura in person for all they’ve done, and continue to do. . .
Thank goodness George W. is still on his watch, with wonderful Laura at his side. After the primary battle of 2008, we never thought we’d go back to Texas for anything, but sometime in 2010 we want to find some event in Dallas the Bushes will be at so at least one of us can go up to them, tell them we are deeply sorry for ever thinking ill of them, and thank them from the bottom of our hearts for their service to America.
We’re sure they will just stare at us and wonder why these gay Chicagoans are crying, but we don’t think we can get through a meeting with them without being emotional.
The comments that follow are also pretty amazing. Well, duh! Forgot the link earlier (Thanks, Steph, for catching that). Here it is now. http://hillbuzz.org/2009/11/10/thank...dy-laura-bush/ Search Tags None | | | No. 1 |

Wow - is it true? I liked the comments too - honest folks from all walks of life .. giving the benefit of the doubt and noticing the good things done without the fanfare.
Thanks for that.

I like the guys.....
I liked the comments too, but keep in mind that they review them and only post ones that meet their criteria. Q: Why hasn’t my comment shown up in a post?
A: Did you say something nasty about Hillary Clinton, Sarah Palin, Bill Clinton, Chelsea Clinton, Roland Burris, gay people, or anyone else we like and support? If so, you should be spreading your nastiness elsewhere, because it won’t be tolerated here. We run this site for free, at great personal expense to ourselves in time and treasure. It is our little corner of the Internet, and attacks on the people we like won’t be accepted. Sorry if you can’t handle that, but take your two-minute hate over to Daily Kos. | | No. 5 |

That is an amazing piece you posted. Thank you. I tried, but couldn't get through all the comments to it. There are many more than I have the time for currently.

Really? I'm so used to my local paper and all the other news papers I read online . . the only comments removed are the ones that are abusive. Otherwise - they let them go for it. Good grief you should see the kooks (both sides) who slug it out in my local paper.

I did not read them all either . . .but a good portion of them.
I'm waiting to see what Marla thinks of the comments about Cheney. (Who I happen to think is awesome and so is his very smart daughter).

Re: A change of heart from a truly surprising source
I just thought the whole thing was remarkably kind and decent. And the apology seemed sincere and without the usual rationalization and back-pedaling. How refreshing to hear someone--anyone--say, "We were wrong. We see things differently now. And we're sorry for what we said earlier." Such a rarity these days to own an error and demonstrate public contrition.
I was further impressed by their resolve to go the extra mile and say they will defend the Bushes whenever they hear them being attacked on a personal level.
God bless them for their humility, their gracious words, and their willingness to make things right. | | No. 9 |

Re: A change of heart from a truly surprising source
Well, Steph, my feelings about Cheney haven't changed much.........but I've gotta admit, things have gotten scary enough over the past year that I almost miss "W".
There, I said it. But then, I suppose I'm like a lot of people in wishing we hadn't drifted so far---and so fast---from one political extreme to the other. I've never trusted the far right OR the far left; I've also never been a fan of one-party rule, and it's every bit as bad, if not worse, under the Democrats as it was under the Republicans.
I do believe that a natural course correction will take place next November, and that gives me hope for the future. What's happening now, however, only further convinces me that power should never be concentrated in the hands of one political faction.........when are we ever going to learn??
