It's a very simple matter to go the the White House website and look up the plan there. Tell your friend she needs to check some facts.

No matter which party it is, if something circulates that's so bizarre, it's always a good idea to look for the facts before playing Chicken Little.

It's both, and you know it. Anyway...

We are literally the only first world country without a public health care plan.

Think about that for a second. Obama is trying to do the right thing by bringing us up to date with the rest of the world, but the vast majority of people in this country are too stupid to accept it, or do even a small amount of research.

The health care insurance industry is largely responsible for these rumors...they are the ones that killed Clinton's plan, and they are working overtime to kill this off...
Sarah Palin comes out with the ridiculous "Death Panels", and people start bugging out. Another poster had a great idea...next time someone comes out with this nonsense, have them tell you WHERE that piece of information is in the plan. I can almost guarantee that they heard it from Hannity, or Rush, or Levin, etc, on talk radio.

It's so convenient to blame Hannity or Rush because they oppose Obama's plan, which is their right by the way, when they never even brought up this silly rumor. Here's an thought, maybe the White House is secretly spreading these stupid rumors to make it look like anyone who opposes their views look like the guilty party. Here's another idea, please report me for my "disinformation".

You're incredibly naive if you believe that INSANE VICIOUS PREPOSTEROUS RUMORS have nothing to do with how congress and senate choose to vote. Sway the public and you sway the vote. The public responds to fear mongering, be it truth or lies.

Hilarious!...but also scary to think that people who can make comments like that are actually the people who vote for our leaders and policies..

The debate over national health insurance is one that has been fought over since as early as 1933... If you wish to know more I suggest you read One Nation Uninsured: Why the U.S. Has No National Health Insurance by Jill Quadagno... it is a truly eye-opening book with great sources. Anywho.... I honestly believe that this nation has to take a foot in the right direction and offer a national health insurance for basic medical needs... If everyone had access to a doctor imagine how many diseases could be prevented or controlled. Medical care should not be a privilege but a right. National health insurance will not fix all our problems but it will fix a broken health care system that is in dire need of repair.

Don't hold your breath.

As to the idea that the White House is "secretly" spreading the rumors, yes, I'm sure that they are working, in secret, with Palin and co.

The fact is that health care reform MUST happen. To leave things as they are would be fiscal suicide, although the health care insurance industry would love to see things remain unchanged, because they are raking in huge profits. Rather than spend all the time and effort to denigrate the Democrats ideas, the Republicans should be coming up with their own ideas, I haven't heard any yet. Hannity, Rush and co. have plenty of air time available to present viable alternatives, but they choose to spend that resource attacking the Dems. And, btw, I listen to these guys daily, and they are quite happy to allow the rumors to go unchallenged, and imply that Obama wants to "pull the plug on Granny".
Knowing that something is false, and refusing to challenge it, is just as bad as spreading the falsehoods yourself.

The first thing that come to mind for me is how much basic and preventitive care for the uninsured and poor could save us in medical expenses in the long run. So many of the patients I see have chronic illnesses that they just can't manage well due to lack of funds and coverage.

And as to the discussions about the public option, all I hear is that it will create "unfair" competition for the private insurance industry. Well, if that is true, then doesn't that tell you something? If government can provide health care for LESS than private industry, what is wrong with that? Are insurance companies somehow enititled to their profits?
When you watch all these town hall meetings, with the screamers and the yellers overshouting everyone else, ask yourself...how many seniors today are screaming and yelling about their Medicare? Last I heard, that was a government-run program. So, it's not working out?
