I think Bachmann's afraid of the 2010 census because it might mean redistricting in Minnesota. Currently, the Sixth Congressional District is a geographically impossible mess that goes from Stillwater, an affluent border community on the east, to conservative Stearns county on the west, and encompasses many of the north metro suburbs.
That and she's a complete nut case.
Totally goes without saying, but it is so fun to say so. In the last election, I remember that she was leading her Dem opponent quite comfortably, until she sprouted off about how Obama "may have anti-American views" and that the media should examine Congress to determine which members are "pro-America or anti-America." That led to people nationwide contributing $8.1 million to her opponent, after he took a year to raise $1 million. But I think the money came a bit too late to help him defeat her. The next election may have a different outcome, hopefully.
Well, you've done it now! You've jinxed it! Mark my words, because of you in 2012 Palin will be "Our Most Holy Mother" and Bachman will be her minion. :wink2:

It never hurts to start learning the words to "O Canada...." eh? Either that or armed resistance!
If there is a Palin/Bachmann ticket in '12, my dh's immigration woes in this country will be no longer. We will gladly hightail it out of here to just about anywhere else, as they both scare the hell out of me.
I really don't see that happening. I doubt she'd even survive the Republican primary....unless Romney, Huckabee, Pawlenty, etc. decide to "take a hike on the Appalachian trail" too.
Seriously, I agree with you. I don't see T-Paw as doing very well in the race for the Republican nomination in 2012. There were concerns that he was ethically challenged when he was elected to his first term as governor. He's also managed to muck up Minnesota pretty badly.
Romney---he could be a contender but I think he's old news.
Huckabee---surprisingly, I like the man. I disagree with him on almost every issue but I think he's sincere. Doesn't mean I'd vote for him for President but I think he's the most reasonable of the bunch so far.
Can't quite see any of them taking a "hike on the Appalachian trail". Too funny!

I admit I am not that familiar with Pawlenty's record, even though he was one of the frontrunners to be McCain's VP pick. I do remember that he cracked this joke though - "I have a wife who genuinely loves to fish. I mean, she will take the lead and ask me to go out fishing, and joyfully comes here. She loves football, she’ll go to hockey games, and I jokingly say, ‘Now, if I could only get her to have sex with me I’d really have it made." Sure he's unlikely to go "hiking on the Appalchian trail"?

I'll agree that he does seem sincere and tries to come across as the world's cuddliest evangelist, but wow, I couldn't disagree with him more on every issue. He was on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart recently, discussing abortion, and his self-righteous sanctimony made me want to puke. Nevertheless, he is more palatable than Palin, which is why as a Dem, I am rooting for Palin/Bachmann! I think Bachmann may be getting competition when it comes to wingnut insanity now that MO politician Cynthia "Hunger is a great motivator for children" Davis has been catapulted into the national spotlight.

That is one of the weirdest things I have ever heard a politician say. Okay, not as weird as Fred Thompson referring to John McCain having dated an "exotic dancer" during his address to the GOP convention, but still pretty strange. Then again, can you blame Mrs. P? Quite frankly, I think she would be the one "hiking on the Appalachian trail".
Here are a couple of links to the best (?) of Pawlenty:
I don't even want to think about his approach to the Minnesota budget. There are reasons Minnesota has had "Pawlenty" of Tim!

Very good point. I'm not sure there is an issue upon which I agree with Mike Huckabee and I would certainly not want to see him elected president. I doubt he will run in 2012 and, honestly, I think Palin will be old news long before then.
Yeah, Cynthia Davis is definitely the new Michele Bachmann. Maybe she'll take some attention away from our favorite Minnesota loon.

Then we'll get to see if any of these politicians would stand by their cheatin' woman.
Thanks for the links about Pawlenty. Interesting since he's relatively unknown outside MN, just like Palin was an unknown before she was picked for VP by McCain. The difference is, Palin was a pretty popular governor in her state then, while Pawlenty isn't. Probably if he decides to throw his hat into the 2012 race, more stories of how he's run MN will come out. BTW, check out this unofficial rating by an NPR Political Editor which puts Pawlenty in first place, among Republican governors who are likely to make it to the White House! I find it hilarious that he rates the Nevada Governor below California's Governator, considering Arnold is constitutionally ineligible.

I think Sarah will find many ways to make sure she remains in the spotlight to further her political ambitions. She's a pro when it comes to picking fights, no matter how trivial!
Bachmann continues to spread Census internment camp fears on Faux News (where else?!):

Of course it may be a bit much to point out that Davis didn't actually make that quote.
And I may go over the top in pointing out that Penny Pritzker, hotel heiress and national finance chair of Obama's campaign, said the same thing that Davis said (when quoted accurately).

Yes, when you use the technique of inserting a new words to describe/characterize someone in between their names, you don't actually quote them verbatim. Didn't realize this had to be explained. And Cynthia Davis said this: "Anyone under 18 can be eligible? Can’t they get a job during the summer by the time they are 16? Hunger can be a positive motivator. What is wrong with the idea of getting a job so you can get better meals? Tip: If you work for McDonald’s, they will feed you for free during your break."

Yeah, nice try. You already posted that on the Cynthia Davis thread. Did you miss my response here?
