Really? How can you know what the income levels of all members of AN are?

And so some work their butts off, make more money than the guys who don't work or work little, and we reward the the latter and punish the former?

Sorry, I can't get on board with that.

I can guarantee i will be hit with that surcharge in full...you wanna pay it for me since you said you could guarantee no member of AN will be hit with it. We hit that income level many months ago due to hard work and sacrafice. Even though I do not consider myself rich just blessed.

Sorry, if your income is over 1 million ($500,000 forf single taxpayer) you're rich and blessed by my standards. Kudos to your hard work and sacrifice.

I'd venture to say not many nurses will be making that kind of money on an annual basis. But that's not what this thread is about.

Leslie, isn't it amazing that there are many forms of currency? The happiness that the paper form provides is so so fleeting...And from the OP, it seems to bring just as much heartache as it does happiness. I would imagine that his tax dollars are helping some of the many many poor families in the greater houston area!

I have no heartache from my paper money. I actaully have no heartache from anything other than the direcdtion my beloved country is headed. I am happy to be able to help my friends and relatives. That is where charity starts. I just do not believe that the government should be entitlted to take even more of the money that I work hard for. What incentive is there for me to try to make more when ever increasing amounts aeere jsut arbitarily taken from me to support programs I do not believe in or support politically?

As the creators of Ben and Jerry's ice cream once wrote ina 50 things you can do to help the world..one of them was to earn less money so that less of your tax dollars will go to defense spending...makes me wonder why I should make more money then to waste it on a boondoggle of a healthcare bill I do not support.

My heart is heavy with much after-election disappointment and heartache for my beloved country, so I'm feeling chartiable towards your feelings, because I'm feeling the same way. In fact seeing the behavior of my fellow countrypeople the last few months has left a very bitter taste in my mouth.

It is indeed understandable. Heck even those of us who work overtime bemoan being "thrown into another tax bracket". However, there always has been tax priveleges/loopholes, etc. that go along with making more money and I support efforts to bring that into line. I also get extremely frustrated by the large amounts of tax refunds that lower income working people get. I have co-workers, single moms with kids, that get such large refunds it's as if they pay no taxes at all. That isn't right either.

If you factor in the welfare many of them are also getting, they are not only not paying any taxes at all, they are being given more "gifts", which is exactly how I see it. How can one get a refund on something they didn't pay in the first place?

I think flat tax is the way to go. And one rate for all. I further believe that if everybody had to take something out of their pocket, reach in and separate a quarter from the cigarette lighter, and fork it over, things would be different. That might keep those with constipation out of the ER's.

I've long been an advocate for the "one rate for all" type of taxation system. It's simple and makes sense. It doesn't enable those whom have kids by lessening their taxes or giving it all back at the end of the year. That frustrates me to no end to see the thousands of dollars I pay go unrefunded, but yet see another person I work with get every single dime back to the point they are lviing tax free. These are people not on welfare though, but still.........:angryfire

Glad Tweety clarified because I was really at a loss as to who these women were that worked full-time and received welfare. As to the children issue, don't people with children also dispose of more money for goods and services thus generating tax revenue as well?

For those of us with children, especially small children that are very very expensive, there is no give-away in the tax code for them. Getting married also yields some benefit, but not much. My husband and I haven't gotten a refund since the first year of our marriage, and at the end of the day, people who get them are not necessarily better off than those of us who don't.

Aside from this record high defense spending budget that went so quietly into the night from the Obama administration, I don't have any huge objections as to how tax dollars are spent. I would challenge those griping to find one, just one desirable country in this world with a tax code less burdensome than ours.

Despite my husbands newfound position in a new tax bracket, and the over-the-top estimated contributions made on both the state and federal levels, I feel that as long as we have everything we need and enjoy most of what we want, where is the complaint?
