No tax $ to companies with mandatory arbitration for sexual assault cases

by herring_RN allnurses Guide

In 2005, Jamie Leigh Jones was gang-raped by her co-workers while she was working for Halliburton/KBR in Baghdad. In an apparent attempt to cover up the incident, the company then put her in a shipping container for at least 24 hours without food, water, or a bed, and "warned her that if she left Iraq for medical treatment, she’d be out of a job." Even more insultingly, the DOJ resisted bringing any criminal charges in the matter. KBR argued that Jones’ employment contract warranted her claims being heard in private arbitration — without jury, judge, public record, or transcript of the proceedings.

Thanks, Herring, for putting this one up.
I've been off the boards for a bit--sorta my own quest-for-reality after being witness to one too many beyond the incredulous musings/conspiracy theories that 'somehow' seem to blossom and flourish like a FOX out here in cyberspace---- and a little surprised this wasn't already a topic of vigorous debate here.
So truly, thanks again, I do hope folks will take the time to read the links provided.
Personally, my feelings surrounding both the details of the crime and the subsequent congressional vote seem too visceral for me to say much. Suffice it to say, Ms. Jones is incredibly strong and though Sen. Franken deserves serious kudos for getting this ammendment introduced, clearly she is the true American Hero here.
Anyhoo.....short John Stewart clip from the Daily Show; I hope everyone will take a look. Brief synopysis of the matter's crux w/an added helping of shame and hypocrisy on the part of the 30 males Republicans who staunchly opposed:

Wow....
Guess I gotta go walk-a-bout now.
Dang.

Un-freaking-believable. Thank you for posting this link, Miss Mab. I missed Stewart that night.

The hypocrisy is astounding.
