Obama blasts AIG bonuses, says 'I'll take responsibility'

President Obama said Wednesday he'll "take responsibility" for AIG executives receiving controversial bonuses while the company took $173 billion in government

President Obama speaks Wednesday at a town-hall-style meeting in Costa Mesa, California.

"We didn't draft these contracts. We've got a lot on our plate. But it is appropriate when you're in charge to make sure stuff doesn't happen like this," Obama told a town hall meeting in Costa Mesa, California. "So we're going to do everything that we can to fix it."
Obama's comments came just more than an hour after Sen. Christopher Dodd, the Senate banking committee chairman, told CNN that he was responsible for language added to the federal stimulus bill to make sure that already-existing contracts for bonuses at companies receiving federal bailout money were honored.

What????

I was kinda doubting myself.

I KNEW Obama was the best choice... A president that accepts responsibility. Dang.

I never thought I'd see a black president or a responsible politician.

I just hope this whole thing doesn't undo him..........I'd like to see him get enough time to lead us far away from where we've been the past 8 years.

I disagree with his opinion that single payer healthcare cannot be achieved.
But so far I respect President Obama.

I think he will. Every time they come up with something else to try and bring him down he outshines, outsmarts AND outclasses them.

I'm seriously considering naming my child (if I have one) Barack. Well at least the middle name.

This is awesome. There's some personal responsibilty for you conservatives.

He said he'll take responsibility, but he did not say what that means. Therefore none of us can say he did or didn't, because we have no clue what "taking responsibility" means to him.

Now Stanley, you know I've repeatedly said I cannot hate someone I don't even know. However, I do not know what HE means by The Buck Stops Here. What's he going to do? Go knock on the doors of the people who got those bonuses, and politely, with class, ask for the money back? Or maybe he's going to actually give back the donation money he got from AIG. Or maybe he'll ask for more legislation that will scold and punish them. My point is: he didn't say what his plan is. We don't know. Again.

I, personally, want him to tell me what that means, to him, in this instance. Because I know what it means to me.

Hater is slang. When you don't like someone you are hating on them. Not the literal hate. I forget that I'm not talking to people in my age group.

You know like the song... Never mind.

Well he didn't tell us what his plan was. Of course not. A leader isn't required to do that. His job isn't to hand hold us and make us feel better (some will argue that). That's the job of a puppet like the Queen of England.

His job as leader of America is to MAKE us better.

As to the respectful discourse. I'm trying. I don't want another 3 month 'vacation' wink:wink:nudge:nudge

I guess that's kind of confusing...And you are younger than my "baby." I do know that "sick" when referring to a wakeboarding trick is a good thing!

I completely disagree with that. I think he OWES us an explanation of the plan. How else can he be held accountable if the plan is kept secret?

And we have the right to judge along the way as to what kind of job he's doing, good or bad, and then let him and other elected officials know what we think. Otherwise, informed voting is impossible.
