Harnessing public outrage over lavish bonuses for bailed-out executives at insurance giant AIG, President Obama said Monday that he will “pursue every single legal avenue to block these bonuses and make the American taxpayers whole.”

Thank you President Obama.

Those clowns at AIG deserve not a dime. Thanks, Mr. President.

Is anyone going to say that these putrid Americans are Republicans?

I will.

Big Business, big profits, big problems. I don't care as long as I get mine - the Republican way.

Whatever...things balance.

Thank God...

OUCH.

Greed is bipartisan issue! As far as I am concerned, It's time we stopped subsidizing it NOW!!!!! What do they (the US Treasure Dept) mean "we can't stop payments"???? COME ON already. These people should be in jail, or on the street like the many that are heading there without jobs----- not being rewarded.

President Obama received $101,332 in donations from AIG last year.

He was second only to Senator Chris Dodd, another Dem.

Do you think he's gonna block THAT AIG bonus?

Think he'll return it?

Hypocrite.

Timothy.

You would be wrong.

They are DEMOCRATS. President Obama went out of his way to say the new CEO really didn't have a choice and wasn't the CEO when all the bad mojo went down. I wonder why he'd trash AIG at the same time he gives the CEO that made this decision a pass?

Answer:

DEMOCRAT. Or at least, friend enough of Obama that Obama would give him a pass.

Tim,
We could go tit or tat forever about this President vs another. I am not sure that any President would make a policy decision over a very paltry donation received prior to winning the election. AIG received infusions from the Treasury starting in Sept 08 of at least 100-150 BN. http://www.thenation.com/doc/2009032...e?rel=nofollow Both parties share responsibility for this issue. Namecalling does nothing to advance the debate.

Campaign finance reform is its very own thread. The 103,000 is not pocket change but it did not come directly from taxpayers either as the misuse of stimulus funds does. In any event I don't think the bonus money is going to stay in AIGS coffers as it will be recouped.
