Example. Say you have 10 red socks and 18 green socks in a sack. How many do you have to pull out to have a pair?
Three or fewer. If you get a green one and then a red one then the third will complete a pair.
If you have three pigeons two or more will be the same gender.
Mathematics can be infuriating and fascinating.

I hate math.
I was using it as a way to categorize . . . like the old fashioned rolltop desks with all the pigeonholes.
- A small compartment or recess, as in a desk, for holding papers; a cubbyhole.
- A specific, often oversimplified category.
- The small hole or holes in a pigeon loft for nesting.
tr.v., -holed, -hol·ing, -holes.
- To place or file in a small compartment or recess.
- To classify mentally; categorize.
- To put aside and ignore; shelve.
