My thought is if we DO make a big deal out of normal play acting - THEN kids might get a "complex" about it. Not "turn" them . . but make them ashamed of normal behavior.
THEN maybe they will sneak around and hide it - which will make it more desirable.
We parents CAN create a monster out of nothing, if we aren't careful.
I have to admit my husband isn't crazy about it BUT he is the one who let his daughter put little curlers in his hair and barrettes all over his head, playing hair stylist when she was a little girl.
