What are you going to do with your $13.00/week to stimulate the economy?

Just heard that our share of this economic stimulus package will be a $13.00 per week tax deduction, starting this summer.
Just can't decide what I am going to do with all this extra discretionary income
Bet it is going to go towards the increase gasoline prices.

So, what are your plans (or comments on how we are getting screwed)?

Donate dried beans and rice to the food bank.

Money well spent and needed. I think I will take your lead, that is IF I get anything. I am on SSDI. IF I get something I pledge to use it to pay it forward. Who else, anyone going to take the pledge? I think herring could be a trend setter here.

Save it. It's fifty bucks a month.

Its an average number. Those at the bottom of the pile will spend it to generate additional demand while those in the middle will probably use it for debt reduction....

If fuel prices rise, the extra money will likely be pumped into my gas tank.

It's a no-win situation. We're entirely too dependent on foreign oil, IMHO.

ed was squawking about food stamps getting lots more money and wanted to know how this would stimulate the economy.

i found out that for every $1 spent, it generates about 1.73 in revenue.
sounds like a good investment to me.

herring, we're always donating food, but a steady supply of rice and beans sounds perfect.
time to get away from some of the canned goods.

Many recently unemployed men in my area are growing a winter garden. Cabbage, greens, onions and such.
Wives are often working as clerks and nursing assistants.
People in their 40's and 50's who used to donate to food banks are now getting food there. Many have kids in high school.

People on food stamps don't need the food bank.

I'm also donating toothpaste, bars of soap and maxi pads.
I see that diapers and TP are donated too.
They asked us not to bring peanut butter even though it is OK. People are scared.

Lots of people cancelled their cable TV and internet service. That money is enough for that.

you know herring, your post got me thinking...
how can i get the most for the $$ (in terms of donating)?
do i get 'unhealthy' processed boxed foods, i.e., instant potatoes. pasta and get more for my $$?
beans, rice again, are perfect.
but if we want to keep nutrient dense in mind, our $$ don't go a long way.
either way, i've decided to buy in bulk and donate the same items every 2 wks or q month:
then donate bulk/same items following month, and do it that way.
will probably go a lot further, $$ wise.

and, buying tons of seedlings for gardening, is also a brilliant idea.

thanks for inspiring me.
