Why should illegal immigrants get tuition breaks?

Another current event in US Politics.

Bill vote on illegal tuition rescheduled after senator leaves to to attend to a family emergency.

"Mr. Harvey, a Republican, had planned to vote against Senate Bill 170 when it came up at the Friday committee hearing. After Mr. Harvey flew to Florida on Tuesday morning, however, Democrats on the Senate Appropriations Committee moved up the vote to Wednesday."

The bill would give in-state tuition to illegal immigrants who have attended a Colorado high school for at least three years. The students must also attend college within one year of graduation or earning their GED.
People that punish children are despicable. Good thing it passed.

There are NO illegal alien children, only children of illegal aliens. The parents committed the crime. NOT the children.

IMHO that is.

Though I will admit that MOVING the vote so that the Republican would miss it is underhanded and dirty politics. It smacks of unethical behavior.

Sucker punches are always lame.

This wasn't about "the children" of illegal immigrants, it was about ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS.

And if it is 'punishment' to expect an illegal immigrant to pay out-of-state tuition, then it's also punishment to charge out-of-state tuition for EVERY student who comes from any other state or country other than Colorado.

Going after both on a salient issue in western Iowa, Romney contended that Huckabee fought for tuition breaks for children of illegal immigrants in his state, while Giuliani provided tuition breaks at the City University for illegal immigrants. He said Clinton, too, backs such breaks.

That-a-boy Romster!

Giuliani spokeswoman Maria Comella accused him of ignoring his own record as governor while he campaigns for president. "Under Governor Mitt Romney the number of illegal immigrants skyrocketed, while he recommended millions of dollars in state aid to numerous sanctuary cities and to companies employing illegal immigrants, not to mention the illegals working on his own lawn," she said.

Doh!

This must have drove the AM radio crowd bananas.

Actually, it IS punishment.

Once you move to a state and establish residence you SHOULD get in-state tuition.

In fact, there should only be ONE tuition rate.

But this is about children of illegal aliens.

A child brought over here is no more an illegal alien than a child is a drug dealer because he lives in a house that is also a meth lab.

For once I agree with Stanley and Abs (Am I mellowing at the ripe old age of 32??)

1. Per the terms of this bill, the child must have been attending a CO high school for at least 3 years. I doubt that there is a great number of 14-15 year olds attempting illegal entry into the US on their own. It's been said before, but why punish the child for the sins of the parents?

2. Of the 20 paragraphs in this article, only 2 of them actually address the question of allowing these young adults to access the in-state tuition rate, the remainder on the perceived sneakiness of moving the vote up. Which leads me to the question...What does this article really have to do with the stated issue? Perhaps one should review their own ability to focus before requesting that others do the same?
