[quote=heron;3403346]BTW, "If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem" ... I first read that in a book by Eldridge Cleaver ... a militant Black Panther ... don't know if it was original to him or if he got it somewhere else. Back in the late 60's, early 70's it was a mantra of the radical left.
Funny how these aphorisms get to be part of the collective consciousness, isn't it?
Maybe we have more to teach other than we think.[/QUOTE
I started using that phrase when I was President of our Homeowner's Association, dealing with people who whined about things but wanted others to fix the problems. I sure didn't read E. Cleaver's book.
I could say more about it being a mantra of the radical left, but I'd better not | | No. 21 |

I wanted Bush to have a successful presidency. Warning that policy ideas are ill informed because... does not equate to a desire for failure. I think that Rush is trying to get himself at the center of attention because his audience base has shifted out from under him with the new election.
Realistically even a moderate success of the Obama administration calls into question every nasty thing that Messrs. Limbaugh, O'Reilly and Hannity have said about democratic policies and ideas.

It was Soul on Ice, I think.
And, yes, it was a slogan of the radical left. It has, indeed, entered the collective consciousness and all I meant was how interesting it is that such things happen. Ideas move around. If they're good ones, I don't care if they come from liberals, radicals, conservatives or the Easter Bunny.

I've listened to him for 20 years - every election someone says that he will lose listeners. And he doesn't.
As to him saying he wants Obama to fail . . . . he actually said " I don't want Obama to fail; I want the country to succeed! I want Obama's policies to fail."
And I agree. I don't believe in Obama's solutions for the economy and I don't believe in many of the things he has already done.
Why should I give up my values just because he was elected?
During the last election for President - there was much partisan bickering here on allnurses, just like this recent election. People who didn't vote for Bush were not happy about his solutions and the things that he did and were VERY angry about Iraq. Are you guys really saying just because Bush was elected, you have to support everything he did?
Rush is also doing a little comparison with his statement about Obama.
"I support the troops, not the war."
"I support Obama, just not his policies."

So, I just have to ask this, Steph...is there the implication that people who don't support war by default don't support the troops?

This one I heard him say on his radio show, probably late last week. I don't spend what little computer time I have looking up this stuff, as do others (and I'm grateful to you and in awe that you can and do), but he said exactly that.

i'm not disputing what you've heard, tt...
but when debating, it's important to provide citations for quotes so we can keep subject in context.
big difference betw saying "i want obama to fail" vs "i don't want obama to fail; i want country to succeed..."
whenever one of us isn't familiar w/info provided, we ask for a source.
we all do it.

Taken from the link herring provided: So I'm thinking of replying to the guy, "Okay, I'll send you a response, but I don't need 400 words, I need four: I hope he fails." I would be honored if the Drive-By Media headlined me all day long: "Limbaugh: I Hope Obama Fails." Somebody's gotta say it. So I can answer it, four words, "I hope he fails."
I think Rush was pretty clear in what he said. Like I said before, it's not a shock to me, and certainly not the worst thing he's said about Obama, but this is pretty clear, and taken straight from rushlimbaugh.com.

But that wasn't all that he said: So this was taken out of context to make a point, one that is now skewed.
And leslie: Like I said, I do appreciate those who post links, and occasionally I can do that too, but I simply do not have the time to always do it. However, even some of the links I don't visit, again due to time constraints. And I don't do graphs! I don't like them. But that's just me | | 1,957 Readers Online |
