Estimates of Climate Bill Cost

by Jolie
Updated Oct 25, 2009 at 07:04 PM by HM2VikingRN

How do the Dems justify adding to the financial burden of Americans who already face 10% unemployment, mortgage foreclosure, high health care costs, etc.?

This article pegs the cost of this legislation at approximately $100 per household, while pointing out that the estimates vary widely.

WASHINGTON – A Senate plan to tackle global warming would add about $100 a year to the energy costs for a typical household, according to an analysis by the Environmental Protection Agency....

Critics of the bill have called it a massive energy tax. They also say the EPA uses overly optimistic assumptions disguising the likely increase in energy costs to consumers....

"One would think that, prior to legislative hearings, the committee would have a thorough, comprehensive economic analysis to understand how an 800-plus page bill, designed to fundamentally reshape the American economy, affects consumers, small businesses, farmers, and American families," Inhofe said in a statement....

Dare I ask where the $100 per family, many of which don't have enough to survive on now, is going to come from? Oh, silly me. There will be more taxes for the rest of us.

You know . . . I'm so glad to see you two. I realize laying low is important from time to time but maybe we could all time it at the SAME time?? So we don't have to go it alone? And Timmy better start checking in on his day off from his soon to be non-existent job.

Don't even get me STARTED on this subject.........it won't be pretty.

Suffice it to say that the idea of burdening hard-pressed families with yet another tax or fee or surcharge, in this economy, is unwise at best and mean-spirited at worst.

The midterm elections cannot come soon enough.

,
we can say that the cost to American households as a result of implementing a cap-and-trade program is anything but certain. And even the CBO’s estimate of the potential costs is subject to change as the bill now makes its way to the Senate, where key details about the way the bill would work may be altered.
source embedded.

I am agnostic as to the cap and trade bill. Other than to point out that the cost figures are gross costs per household without accounting for rebates from sales of the carbon credits. Some households will actually see a net rebate as a result of this bill. If this bill serves the policy goal of moving towards energy independence by reducing our dependence on foreign energy than we will see real savings in reduced DOD costs as we won't be sending our physical or human treasure to foreign shores for oil supplies.

Can we afford to continue to ignore this issue and what are the long-term costs if we do.

My power company has asked for a 25% rate hike anyway, after already getting a huge hike last year. Not likely they'll get all they're asking for, but surely my bill will be going up by more than $9.00 a month climate bill or not.

I'm not so certain about this bill. What does it actually do to stem global warming?

Regardless, I think it's pretty obvious something needs to be done about the environment or the "cost" for future generations will be astronomical.

Okay, Okay, and glad you missed me. I haven't been laying low on purpose, just very busy, in my real life! Trying not to break a leg every time the phone rings (waiting on the call that our first grandchild has arrived) and getting ready to do some traveling (to see above-mentioned grandchild).

Cap and Tax? or Cap and Trade? I dont' think it will do one tiny little thing toward changing climate change! In fact, last week, there was a new poll that said more people now don't believe it's humanly caused than believe it is....a big change from three years ago. Can it be that some are finally starting to see that it and the band wagon it rolled in on was a cash cow for just a few: Al Gore being one of the them. Carbon Credits? what a bunch of bunk!

Here's the poll:

It's also interesting that the radicals have changed it from "global warming" (which has proven to be a farce) to "climate change".
