Feelings about tragic terrorist killings

More than 150 people were killed over the weekend by suicide bombers. The week before we were overwhelmed by the London suicide bombings. We kind of took the deaths in Iraq in stride. Wonder why.

Is it because there is only so much terror we can emotionally react to?
Is it because a war is going on?
Because we have a shared culteral identification with the English?
Because London resembles New York?

Good things to ponder.

I'd go with them all, especially the last two. To be blunt, we care more for the British than we do the Iraqi's. The bonds between American and the British run deep (since about 1812 when we asked them to leave our shores for the last time). So there's more a kinship with then than the Iraqi's, although we should be equally horrified wtih the bombings in Iraq.

They are our most vocal and strongest ally in the war against Iraq and terrorism.

And London reminds of NY.

Terrorist attacks have occurred in the middle east for so long, I do think we're a bit jaded when we hear of yet another one. But when it strikes home we take notice.

Is it because a war is going on?
I was thinking the other day about his war that is going on in Iraq and who we are fighting there. Was thinking about the children who were killed by the suicide bomber the other day in Iraq..then just today I ran across an article about the funeral for those children, the parents of the children were of course crying at the funeral then someone noticed a strange man who appeared to have a bulge in his chest so he was apprehended quickly and found to be wearing a vest with explosives. The suicide bomber was going to blow up the parents of the dead children. I thought to myself "It's not enough to kill the infidels.. now the Terrorists are killing Muslim children and attempting to kill the parents of the dead Muslim children". Have the Terrorists gone mad? Have they totally lost it? They are killing their own culture in the name of Allah?

I agree with your post. I think the main purpose of this act is to stir up sectarian violence between the Sunnis and the Shi'ites.

Here are the stories of terrorist plots and conspiracies in the United States since 1995 — plots and violence waged against a democratic America.

Thank you Herring. Sadly I think Beck and Co. only embolden those on the far right who would seek to commit terrible acts.

I think of right-wingers like Beck, Savage and O'Reilly as cheerleaders or these extremist right-wingers, whether they know it or not. A good comparison would be an extremist on Al Jazeera praising the deeds of Bin Laden. It's the same thing.
