Media are biased. :deadhorse

The question is, how does one use the media to get the most-likely-to-be-something-resembling-reality information?

Well, I'd say a broad range of media . . . . and then research the info yourself.

I honestly don't know what the big deal is...........Fox has liberal commentators (Geraldo Rivera? Juan Williams? Alan Colmes? Hello!) as well as conservative ones. For that reason, if I really want both sides of an issue, I watch Fox. But that's just me.

So, here's my question, if the poor 5 can be liberally slanted, why is it such a bad thing that Fox isn't? The "5" certainly don't present fair and balanced. The panels on Fox, on the other hand, had liberals and conservatives, discuss the hot issues. Their news, to me, IS fair. O'Reilly and others are biased, but then they are not news shows. As a comparison, I give you Keith O. He's not a newsman either, and he certainly isn't unbiased. And there's Maher, and the list could go on and on, but on both sides.

I guess it's the extent of the bias that bugs me. Their reporters like Forest Sawyer offer opinions rather than report or host a show, although Mr. Sawyer does have a liberal or two on his Sunday morning show. Their sponsorship and coverage of the tea parties is what has completely totally turned me off to the network forever.

I'm not buying into the idea that the 5 networks are liberally slanted because over the years they've roasted governments and issues that made news, no matter whom the news was about. But I accept that some people feel that way and that conservatives have complaints. I think most of them, with the exception of MSNBC are middle of the road and fair.

But this is a beating a dead horse topic for me. Not further comments.

Liberal media did NOT give facts about the WMD that led us to war:

...What if the model being used to dissect Dan Rather and CBS News was applied to all of the corporate media for their coverage in the build up to the invasion of Iraq? We speak with Harper's publisher Rick MacArthur who says "there would have been no war."...
It has been discussed here on allnurses:

Is this, "Oops ... wrong question" ... or does it support the Fox fans' point?

Or both?

"Fox News Poll: Most Blame Bush for Economy
By David Weigel 10/30/09 9:58 AM

Here’s a somewhat surprising result from the new Fox News poll. Asked which president is “more responsible for the current state of the economy,” only 18 percent say President Obama. Fifty-eight percent say former President George W. Bush. Nine percent blame both of them. Republicans are the only subgroup of voters who blame Obama, and only by a six-point margin of 35 percent to 29 percent."

What's interesting is that 11% - 14% of respondents don't know what the words "liberal" and "conservative" mean!

Out of everyone on Fox News, Shep Smith is about the only one I can stand. He gained my respect when he reported on Hurricane Katrina.

Studies conducted by a wide range of
organizations, including University of Maryland’s Program on International Policy Attitudes (PIPA), CBS,
the Pew Research Center and CNN,
reveal that Americans are more likely to hold progressive than
conservative points of view on most of today’s mainstream political issues.

Fox really is out of step to the right. This article was critiquing CSPAN for being overly conservative and CSPAN is more centrist (at least for Washington Journal) than Fox and Friends...
