I like some of Joel Stein. Like this:

"I don't love America. That's what conservatives are always telling liberals like me...

But I've come to believe conservatives are right. They do love America more. Sure, we liberals claim that our love is deeper because we seek to improve the United States by pointing out its flaws. But calling your wife fat isn't love...

I'll never experience the joy of Hannity-level patriotism. I'm the type who always wonders if some other idea or place or system is better and I'm missing out. And, as I figured out shortly after meeting my wife, that is no way to love."

With all due respect, I don't think Mr. Stein's comparison is a valid one.

Calling your wife fat isn't love. But offering to walk with her after supper is.

I find this level of State worship - the 'America first, right, only, and exceptional' ideology - a bit disturbing. Is there any system so perfect it can't use a little tweaking? Are any of us here so perfect that we can't use a little tweaking?

If not, then what were the Tea Parties all about?

This has been a relatively calm and thoughtful thread. Maybe there is hope that extremists on both sides can be quieted and the real voices of average Americans can hear each other.

Can we agree on this? The Beck/Olbermann types are the problem and statements about "death panels" and "teabaggers" are out of line. Can we stop the regression?

i don't think it's obsessive, given the fact that palin lacked credibility from the get-go.

seriously, it's nothing more than critiquing a book...
totally reasonable.

Besides, she expects us to fork over money for the privilege of reading what she has to say ... I'd say it was a little consumer due diligence to find out if it's worth it.

The more the journalnastas diss her book, the better it's going to sell. It's already a runaway bestseller. The deluge of negative publicity is just going to help Sarah's cause.
