And movealong's points are just as valid as anyone else's. A receptionist for a doctor's office could truthfully say she "works in the medical field."

Have you heard the term "necessary evil"? I am anti-nursing malpractice. Facilities are covered, why take money from nurses just to feed the system.

You are soo right, a receptionist can say they work in the medical field... what has that got to do with this thread?
Oh, I said I have worked in the legal field, and you insinuate that I could have been a receptionist. Cute.
movealong's point are not valid, show misconceptions of the legal system, show basically that movealong has his/her mind made up, and nothin is going to change it.
I know nothing about OB/GYN, and would not even consider attempting to converse in the OB/GYN language, as a knowledgable OB/GYN nurse would see my ignorance immediately. That is what is showing with many nurses... an ignorance of the legal system.
Keep paying your malpractice... and then we can definitely say "see you in court"

You know nothing of my conversatins with my friend, nor to what extent we talked, how detailed the discussions were. Or even my own background. As a result, you have no business saying my points are not valid. You simply do not know me, nor the extent of my knowledge. And furthermore, if my mind is made up, it is made up based on facts gotten from a tremendously smart lawyer that I have known for years, rather than be swayed by a few paragraphs on a forum from someone I don't know and from someone I have not had any in depth conversations with. Figure that one out.

Mschrisco: It was an analogy. You said you worked in the legal field. That could be anything from answering phones to being a paralegal, to being the cleaning personnel. Because you "worked in the legal field", we're supposed to take what you say as gospel? No, sorry. You may have valid points to make, but so does movealong, who has a friend who is an atty directly involved in these matters.

Could not both movealong and mschrisco have valid points depending on where they live and who they talk to? Doesn't mean either of them are wrong.

I do not carry my own malpractice insurance - a very good friend of mine who has been a nurse for a long long time advised me it is a waste of money.

Others may have had different experiences.

We each get to choose . . . what a country!!

I'm sure it's possible both sides are correct as well. And that some hospitals have a policy of settling.

But do they really automatically write a check every time a claim is filed, even though it's not their fault?

I do find that hard to believe.

Never siad they write a check each time, esp. if it's not their fault. They settle out of court as a policy when possible.

You said:

Nope, most hospitals will try to settle out of court, rather than face a jury trial, even if they are in the right.

What else could that mean? Someone always pays during a settlement, usually the defendant. And you said this hospital settles, even when they are right.

This is confusing. Your statements aren't making much sense ... at least to me.

My pardon, my memory is not what it used to be. But I did most and not all.

You're speaking for others. my pardon, didn't know that either!

Figure that one out? naw, you are too quick for me.
I don't know the extent of your knowledge, but I have a friend, who has a cousin, who was on a train with, who said.....

As for having no business saying points are not valid... sit down for this one...THIS IS A FORUM... THAT IS WHAT HAPPENS ON A FORUM!!

Your points are not valid.

I kept waiting for someone to simply say "what did you do in the legal field?". But, unfortunately, it is easier to sling than think.

Can you spell "caustic"?
