Re: Keep the Faith.....
Wow, there sure are a lot of folks drinking the "Green Movement" Koolaid these days.........but at what cost to everyone else?
NOBODY is advocating for the destruction of Mother Earth. Talk about cutting our own throats........that's why my family has been recycling and composting for eighty years, long before it was fashionable. In fact, I can still hear my long-dead grandmother's voice saying, "Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without."
But the radical environmentalists have taken things to such a ridiculous extreme that almost everything they say is suspect, IMHO. Take 'global warming', which is still so debatable that the term "climate change" is beginning to take its place, if for no other reason than to cover the greenies' bases in case the cause of our planet's ills turns out to be totally different from what they claim it is.
The solution, of course, is a series of measures that will cost thousands, if not millions of jobs and drive consumer prices higher and higher while reducing quality of life for almost everyone. Now, even those of you who believe in all of this need to ask yourselves: do you really want to give up your air conditioner when it's 108 degrees outside? Do you want to be told you HAVE to compost, or else? And what of those of you who prefer to live out in the country where you can breathe: do you want to be forced to move into some population-dense rabbit warren in town, give up your car, and walk or ride a bike every time you want/need to go somewhere?
Don't think it can't happen.........the current occupant of the White House, and a majority of sympathizers in Congress, are all big on this "green" stuff. And what I see everytime some politician or some celebrity says the word 'green', is more OF it coming out of my wallet.
That is all.

Re: Keep the Faith.....
. . . Or do you really want someone else to have control over the thermostat in your home or time when to turn your dishwasher on?
I could go on and on with a list of ridiculous things.
No, I don't believe that global warming (climate change ) is a threat.
Yes, I do recycle and always have. Yes I turn out the lights when I'm not in a room. Yes I never litter and have taken my kids to help clean up highways.
I think there are many things that make sense to do.
But others are, as Viva said . . "Green Movement Koolaid" . . . .

Re: Keep the Faith.....
Gee, thanks for turning what was to be a positive post about my faith in humanity back into something politically negative.
I don't drink Kool Aid thank you very much. I'm a "greenie" and proud of it. I could go on and on, but decline to comment further because I choose my battles.
I will say, Marla, that the solar panel and other projects that are getting stimulus money for the environment are creating jobs here in Florida and aren't really costing customers anything. "FPL Group Chief Executive Lew Hay said, ``Our Florida solar projects are creating good construction jobs when they're needed most, and in the years ahead they'll create clean energy when its needed most." Sounds like a win-win situation to me. http://www.miamiherald.com/news/sout...y/1303484.html | | No. 4 |

Tweety - I felt bad after posting because I knew this was meant to be a positive thread about the goodness of humanity. :imbar
And nothing the folks in the video were doing was bad - it was all done with wonderful motives.
I will give you that.

Re: Keep the Faith.....
My dd just told me she had a PTO from work. Why? She "donated" 1 hour of work for a year to United Way.
Now, that is admirable.
Tweety, all of humanity is not lost. There are those of us who still volunteer our services and our monies to the unfortunate. You keep the faith!!

Your words are the very essence of this thread, Les.
And, I truly believe you.
Thank you, friend, for just taking the time to state what is in your heart.

You said it, Steph. And I apologize for derailing the thread a bit, because it WAS meant to be a positive thing. It's just hard for me to swallow .......not only because I believe there's a lot of misguided people out there, but because the road to Hell is paved with good intentions, and UNintended consequences.
That doesn't make me a bad person. In fact, I'm one of those who donates an hour's pay every week to the Sunshine Fund at work, which is set up to help employees who find themselves in a pinch when the electricity is about to be shut off or they're about to be evicted from their homes or they need to fly to Ohio to visit their dying Aunt Tillie. I'll likely never benefit from it because I can afford to pay my bills and house payment, but I do it to help those who can't. And if the cost of living keeps going up---in no small part because of "green" legislation---I might not be able to do this anymore. KWIM?
I love ya, Tweety, but you've got to know that you can't post something like this without some sour old grump like me saying "Whoa, back up the ponies!" | | No. 9 |

Re: Keep the Faith.....
From where I sit, I see many people . . the majority of people . . .doing things to help others and to help our communities and the world.
I think the ones who do not are the minority - unfortunately bad news gets the most press.
But look around . . really. There are many great reasons to "Keep the Faith".
Marla - "sour old grump" . . . . oh that made me LOL. Nuttin' further from the truth there friend.
