I'm sure military divorce rates are higher than usual...I have no doubt it cost my stepfather his first marriage 50 years ago. He just could not accomodate the stress of marriage plus the stress of adjusting from being home from a combat zone. But he loves his first wife still, even though she has been dead for many years now.
This whole damn thing makes me so mad. I think I am going to keep this thread running as a way of keeping track of things like this, if for no other reason than to keep it on our minds.
I'm concerned with how VA benefits are affected in the case of suicide concerning minor children of divorced soldiers living with the non-military parent (that's a mouthful). This is less of a concern for people who reenlisted a few times, but for green recruits with less than 3 years served, I could see some major VA red tape and obstacles. I shudder to think of health benefits with an expiration date that may come before the child ougrows the shoes on his or her feet. People really need to talk about this and thanks, Elvish, for keeping this on people's minds.
