I don't agree with CS Lewis' theology on everything but I did read the Screwtape Letters in college and it completely blew my mind.

But to be honest, I found as much if not more workable theology in The Lord of the Rings as I did in most of CS Lewis' books.

That piece I found on the blog God's Politics, which I discovered just recently and really like.

Agreed, Elvish ... the man's a serious Christian and I differ significantly with just about all the Christian traditions I know of.

But, his description of the inner dynamics of just how ordinary people, who are not frank sociopaths, can talk themselves into doing evil is just ... spot on. I read Screwtape almost forty years ago and still use the ideas to this day.

I'll take a useful idea any way I can get it!

Did you know that Lewis and Tolkien were very close friends? I always thought that was interesting.

I was thinking of ordering another copy, myself. Mine is long since gone ... it's one of those books that seems to get permanently "loaned" to friends.

Good stuff ... when you get it, maybe we can have a discussion thread.
